United's co-branded credit cards are issued through Chase and have become significantly more valuable to hold following the April 2026 MileagePlus restructuring. Cardholders earn miles on flights at roughly double the rate of non-cardholders and receive a minimum 10% discount on award redemptions.
The United Explorer Card ($150 annual fee, $0 the first year) is the entry-level option. Benefits include a free first checked bag for the primary cardholder, two United Club one-time passes per year, priority boarding, 9x total miles on United flights, and over $500 in annual partner credits covering travel, rideshare, hotels, and Instacart. The card earns 1 PQP per $20 spent toward elite status, with a cap of 18,000 PQP per year.
The United Quest Card and United Club Card step up in annual fee and perks. The United Club Card ($695 annual fee) includes full United Club membership (a standalone membership costs $650+ per year), 1 PQP per $15 spent up to 28,000 annually, and Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit. For travelers who already purchase United Club access, the card can pay for itself on that benefit alone.
A new United debit card was also launched in 2026 for travelers who want to earn MileagePlus miles on daily spending without a credit card. Miles earned through the debit card also count toward the new cardholder earning tiers and award discounts.
United is a founding member of Star Alliance, the world's largest airline alliance with 44 member airlines serving more than 1,000 airports globally. Star Alliance membership is relevant to MileagePlus members in two ways: it expands where you can earn and redeem miles, and it determines what benefits your elite status unlocks when flying partner airlines.
MileagePlus Premier Gold members and above receive Star Alliance Gold status, which entitles them to lounge access at participating Star Alliance member lounges worldwide before international departures, priority check-in, priority baggage handling, priority boarding, and an extra 20 kilograms of checked baggage allowance on Star Alliance flights outside the US. Within the US, Star Alliance Gold members can access United Clubs only on international Star Alliance departures - not domestic flights.
Key alliance partners for earning and redeeming MileagePlus miles include All Nippon Airways, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Swiss International Air Lines, and Singapore Airlines, among others. Award availability and transfer terms vary by partner. United also operates transatlantic joint ventures with Lufthansa Group carriers and a transpacific joint venture with All Nippon Airways, meaning these partnerships offer tighter schedule coordination and broader award availability than standard alliance relationships.

Etihad Airways is known for its world-class service, especially in business class, and often runs seasonal discounts on international routes. Malaysia Airlines is another strong option, offering comfortable full-service flights with competitive pricing across Asia, Australia, and beyond. Both carriers have loyalty programs and run flash sales that can rival United’s fares. GrabOn features verified Etihad Airways coupon codes and Malaysia Airlines offers, so you can find the best deal before you book your next trip.

MileagePlus members get early sale access, but the biggest perks now require a United Chase card. Cardholders earn at least 6 miles per dollar on United flights versus 3 miles for non-cardholders. Cardholders also get at least 10% off award redemptions, and Premier cardholders get at least 15% off.
Visit united.com/deals for current sales, bundles, and mileage offers. United's Low Fare Calendar uses color-coding to show the cheapest dates in a given month - green means lowest price. Domestic fares are typically cheapest 1-3 months out; international fares fall 2-8 months before departure.
United operates one daily nonstop between Newark (EWR) and New Delhi (DEL), roughly 14.5 hours eastbound on a Boeing 787. Polaris business class is available on this route. Travelers from other US cities can connect through Newark on the same ticket.
Polaris is United's long-haul international business class, featuring lie-flat seats with direct aisle access and Saks Fifth Avenue bedding. It is sold in three tiers - Base, Standard, and Flexible. Base fares do not include Polaris Lounge access or seat selection; Standard and Flexible fares do.
The first checked bag costs $40 on most domestic economy tickets when paid online at least 24 hours ahead. Basic Economy passengers on domestic routes are limited to one personal item - no carry-on is included. Use United's baggage calculator on united.com to confirm the exact fee for your route and fare class.
United has permanently removed change fees on main cabin and above tickets for domestic and international routes. You pay only the fare difference if the new flight costs more - no separate change fee applies. Basic Economy tickets cannot be changed after booking.
Yes, MileagePlus miles can be earned on any of Star Alliance's 44 member airlines, including Lufthansa, Air Canada, and All Nippon Airways. Earning rates on partner flights depend on your fare class and the partner's agreement with United. Miles earned on partners also count toward MileagePlus Premier elite status in most cases.
